This blog is about my birding exploits, which mainly take place in the Weymouth/Portland area, in Dorset. Will also include stuff from elsewhere, plus some other critters too. Hope you enjoy. A Few Bits From The Weekend

Had an excellent afternoons birding with me mate Chris in Wareham Forest yesterday, with Lesser Redpolls, Crossbills, Bramblings, Great Grey Shrike, Woodcock and adult male Merlin being the highlights.

I'm no expert, but heard 2 different flight call types from the Crossbills, which I'm guessing were Glip and Wandering. Would be interested to hear from anyone else birding in Wareham Forest recently if they've noticed the same, or can put me right, if I've made a total hash up.

65 Bramblings were counted at Bere Heath yesterday. Stunning creatures.

The winter would not be complete without seeing one of these beauties. Could be just the one widely ranging bird in Wareham Forest at the moment.

Today, the Scandinavian Herring Gull remained in residence at Radipole Lake. Would be great if this bird becomes a regular over the next coming winters.
