This blog is about my birding exploits, which mainly take place in the Weymouth/Portland area, in Dorset. Will also include stuff from elsewhere, plus some other critters too. Hope you enjoy. Osprey Over Me House

Spent the evening at Lodmoor, where a drake Garganey was the highlight.

My favourite Spring sound of Willow Warblers singing was also nice. I'll finish off though with a couple of cracking 2nd-summer Mediterranean Gulls.

A Bit Of A Catch Up

On Wednesday I saw an Osprey head north over Lodmoor to a backdrop of booming Bittern and displaying Marsh Harriers.

The Osprey.

Today, started off at Ferrybridge, where a Little Gull was the highlight.

Then it was up to Portland, where other than a Black Redstart, it was somewhat quiet for migrants.

Off to Lodmoor and the surprise there was a new female Marsh Harrier shaking things up with the resident pair. Migrants seen at Lodmoor included Willow Warbler and Swallow.

The adult female.

The new female. What a bloody trouble maker. Will the male fall for the younger bird and do the dirty on his partner? Stay tuned folks.

Male Bearded Tit.

Marsh Harriers

From below a typical adult male. This bird is in it's 7th calender year.

From above though, definitely not a typical adult male. This bird, that mimics the plumage of a female, is very unusual and apparently is the only one that looks like this in the country.

Being mobbed by a Carrion Crow.

Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers

Excellent prolonged views of a beautiful, yet incredibly elusive species.

First off, the male, with it's glossy red white speckled cap.

A stunning bird.

And now the female, with it's creamy forecrown.

Great Grey Shrike In Wareham Forest

A very unapproachable bird.

Whilst looking for the shrike, a few Crossbills flew over including this lovely male.

Went to look at one of the Iceland Gulls in Chesil Cove this morning.
